Design is engrossing, entertaining, and deeply transformative. We need filmmakers to observe, enjoy, and develop strong opinions about design in its many forms—architecture, fashion, interiors, interfaces—and understand how these elements influence the stories we tell.

Filmmakers can learn from designers the art of reduction—of distilling ideas into their purest forms. A single well-placed object in a scene, like a perfectly designed chair, can evoke a character’s essence more powerfully than pages of dialogue. Designers teach us how to balance function and emotion, how to create something not just beautiful but meaningful. We want filmmakers to understand the difference between true design and expensive decoration—between storytelling that enriches the audience and ornamentation that simply dazzles.
